SMARTer Kids Research

How can technology improve teaching and learning?

ResearcherComputer-based technology has been introduced in schools, not only to prepare students for an increasingly technological world, but to improve pedagogy itself. Proposed benefits of technology in education include greater access to learning and teaching resources, improved student learning, enhanced literacy skills, and promotion of active and collaborative learning. Practical research is needed to measure and document the effects of technology in education and to provide an understanding of how to foster its positive benefits.

SMARTer Kids Research is a program created to help educators study technology's effects on teaching and learning, and to publish research results.

Program Overview
The SMARTer Kids Research program supports action-based research projects conducted by practitioners in education. Action research gives educators the opportunity to assess the effects of technology on teaching and learning, explore and test new ideas and methods in the classroom, and investigate and practice new teaching styles. Completed studies may be published on the SMARTer Kids Research website.

Project Library

Visit the research library to browse through completed papers. These research projects study the educational use of interactive whiteboards, which are becoming popular tools for integrating computers with curriculum.
An interactive whiteboard combines with a computer and projector to become a large, touch-sensitive display. Teachers and students can write and erase notes, press on the board to control computer applications and save information to the computer.
